Controversies in using technology in language teaching

I found this very interesting article in the British Council site. I think it's worth reading it. Click on the text and it will take you to the complete text.

"The use of technology in language teaching is more and more common nowadays and teachers are taking advantage of this tool. However, there are some controversies in the use of technology. Read more about it in the article below".

  1. Very interesting article. I've always thought through the use of IWB and how classes may turn out to be with this tool. I'm afraid we teachers may be so amazed by it that classes will not be as interactive as we'd been struggling to make them be in the past years.

However I do think the use of such tool is valid and necessary - not only to attract students but also to make us catch up with the news technology available out there that all our students master.

I really like the idea of integrating the classroom with the Internet. Not only by assigning online homework but also by using internet tools such as Dictionaries, blogs, Youtbe and Skype in the lessons. Students enjoy that a lot and we take a break from the coursebook.

Anyways, there are lots of things to discuss about this. I'd like to read more opinions. Anyone?

  2. This is happening as we speak.

Language is interneticizing into a new medium of communication.

The other tools of communication you mention--expensive and ephemeral--are probably not important in the long run--if there IS a long-run that is.

    Good blog.
